Daisy & John // A Love Story from Kunming, China

  • We are bringing in 2011 with what we both love – photography… and lots of it!

Every once in a while, we meet couples that share a love that is completely contagious.

    Meet: Daisy & John

Their story stopped Kate in her tracks…

I (Kate) just spent 4+ months away from the love of my life. The feeling of holding the ones that you love, after any amount of absence is like coming home again. Now imagine living a day’s trip apart and only getting to touch or see the person that you plan to marry twice in a year. I stopped when I heard John talk about his sweetheart, because after finally seeing my best friend after months apart, the last thing I wanted to think about was being apart any time soon. Daisy and John are high school sweethearts; they are spending the next 2 years cities apart so that Daisy can finish her masters degree in Kunming, while John works in his hometown and prepares for their future together.

Daisy and John are truly a joy to be around. They laughed and played through their entire session at Green Lake in downtown Kunming.

I may have favored her beautiful features just a little… I think this is the moment I fell in love with Daisy.

John speaks some English, but explaining a creative vision with limited words can be a challenge. They did not seem to mind. With James in tow – to help translate and demonstrate :) – we had an incredible afternoon together.

    Favorites!

… Did I mention that I love the way that they play?

    This is another favorite!

I had walked away for a few minutes and asked them to simply enjoy each other and try to ignore the camera for a few moments. What resulted was a photo that really captures everyday life in China. People frequently stop and relax by squatting down – something that westerners look at and think, “How is that women in 3 inch heels comfortable?!” :)

This smile is why she her American name is Daisy.

A beautiful afternoon with two great people that I am so glad to call my friends.

It was strange not to have Kris by my side to continue to inspire me along the way – as only she can – but I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to travel around the world and document love in every place we visited. From the look of a child who receives the gift of music for the first time… to the look of patient and long lasting love between two very special people… Love is a universal language. It’s why we do what we do.

    Much Love,

    Kate and Kris
